I had one of these fans for my dorm room while I was in college in North Carolina. Towards the end of the summer when it was hot & very humid, it didn't seem to help with the temperature at all. After the weather cooled down, it worked great to lower the temperature to a more pleasant place.

I bought two of these fans about a year ago to put in my kitchen window, and bedroom window during the summer months. I just got through setting it up for this summer. I have been very happy with them so far, and they still seem like new. I have read other reviews that said the fans are too noisy. I think when they are on the highest setting it is noisy, but you know, it's a fan! I have never seen any model that was silent on the highest setting. I find that this unit works well for me. I particularly like that I can intake, or expel air from the room, or (because of the dual control feature) both at once. Only thing that is weird to me is the "thermostat" knob, which other than turning the unit off or on, doesn't seem to serve a purpose.

*Update 6/29/2010*

Well, I deducted 2 stars from my rating. The motor that controls the left hand side of the unit just quit working last week :( I don't know what happened. The unit has been in the window, not received any unusual moisture or anything. The right side of the unit continues to work as it should. I am disappointed that a fan is about $50 would stop working like that. I will have to see if I have any warranty info, and will update with any developments.

*Update 8/30/2010

I deducted one more star. The fan on the right side of the unit stopped working last week. Once again, no undue moisture or trauma occurred. I think a $50 dollar fan should definitely last longer than two summers. I am disappointed. We still have one the one working upstairs, and no issues, but I wouldn't want to chance buying this brand in the future.
