This film is definitely more of an art film and nothing at all like what the box description says. We picked our copy up at a video store that was closing. My husband and I watched it together and were entertained but puzzled. But I didn't hate it by any means.

I re-watched the film about a month ago and now knowing not to expect the standard Hollywood type plot, I was able to take away a lot more from the nuances made in gestures and dialog. I quite like the film and I am glad we bought it. The unique style of the film almost gives you the sensation of being a voyeur into these episodes of the main characters lives. We don't know the "whole story" just what we see and hear in this present moment with them. I actually thought Defoe did a great job with his backward, secluded character. He is a delight to watch.

Yes, there is a horn type toot at one scene that is odd. After reading the review which mentioned it as being like an elf under a toadstool, I think of that when I see it and chuckle, but enjoy it none the less. The ending of the film is a bit of a shock, but it is meaningful. I think when you first see the film, you don't realize the importance of the opening scene...

I checked this out from my local library, now I am thinking of adding it to my collection. I personally quite like the use of "modern technology" mixed with the older clothing. The industrial office type scenes brought Winston Smith's office in 1984 to my mind. The styling of the costumes and sets were well done and I felt like it added a lot to the story.

The mystery of the film is interesting, although I wasn't quite satisfied with the ending. I wanted just a bit more for Donovan's character. There is a bit of humor laced into the film as well - the desk on the track scene. My husband and I still laugh about that now and then, and whenever I hear a snappy saxophone playing something similar to the music in the film at that point, I see the scene in my minds eye, what a hoot!

This film is definitely not for everyone, but if you enjoy seeing something different, with an artistic approach as opposed to the cliche Hollywood model, I think you would appreciate this film.

Finally listened to the whole soundtrack and honestly I liked most of the songs. The main hits for me are:

8. The Game Has Changed
13. Derezzed
9. Outlands

Might be others, have to listen to it again. But overall I really enjoyed it.

I've been a Predator fan since the original. So I was hopeful that this would be a good sequel. Boy was I wrong :(

The premise of this movie is 3 Predators hunting on a game reserve planet. So I thought I'd see more of the Predators you know ... hunting! It never really showed the Predators stalking there prey at all. Other than some random thermal vision off and on. It really just needed more Predator action! Not human action, you come to a movie like this to see Predators doing there thing.

I think it would have been cool to see them hunting other things on the planet other than the humans too. See it more from the Predators perspective instead of the humans the whole time.

What I did like is how the Predators looked. Each looked a little different. One of them looked exactly like the Predator from the original movie, which was a nice touch.

They actually referenced some of the events of the original Predator, that proved to be helpful to the humans later on.

Another cool thing about Predators is the weapons they use. There wasn't anything new other than a flying machine that scans an area. The plasma cannon and claws are what they used in this movie. It would have been ok if they even used weapons in past movies. But just claws and energy attacks?

Apparently the hunt has been going on for a long time, so it would be nice to see some flashbacks of hunts in the past. Like the last Samurai that was there for example.

My friend Oly noticed this: "At one point these "Predator Dogs" as I call them. Where sent out to attack them, they had trouble even killing one for a few minutes, then all of a sudden they can kill them with one shot?"

There was a survivor that has been there for 8 - 10 seasons (they didn't explain how long a "season" was either). During that time he managed to kill 2 or 3 Predators. But when he finally gets killed by a Predator he puts up no fight at all?? All he says is "You finally found me" and just stands there and gets blasted..

If these Predators are so smart like they mention in the movie, how did all 3 get beaten so easily?

I am mostly familiar with the works of Hayao Miyazaki and this was quite a departure from that. I was worried that I might not like it, however just a few moments into the beginning titles with it's imaginative imagery and great music that makes you want to hear it again, I was hooked. Paprika is a full story with shades of love, humor, drama, etc. The writers should be commended for the levels of humanity they have created in the characters that make you care about what is happening to them. The imagery is wonderful it stays in your mind. I still smile when I think of the alligators in the parade! This is definitely worth seeing.

I had checked this CD out from my local library many years ago now. I liked it so much that I put it on a list I keep of musical pieces I particularly like. I tried to get the CD a few months ago and discovered that it is no longer in the circulation collection of the library. Luckily I was able to find a copy for purchase here. I was so excited when it came, I have listened to it multiple times since I received it. The early music presented on this collection is a delight, the recording is excellent and the performances are outstanding. If you have a thing for the haunting tones and melodies of early music this is a must have for your collection. Jewels like this shouldn't be out of print!

This CD was on my "to get" list for years. The only thing that delayed my obtaining it is that it is out of print, and somewhat sought after which makes the copies that do come up for sale a little overpriced. Personally, I think paying any more than $30 for this CD would be way too much. The music is very emotive and beautifully presented, but there is little to no variation on most of the tracks making it one of the less inspired movie soundtracks available. That being said, if you fell in love with that main theme music as I did, it is a fun treat to listen and recall the wonderfully played scenes of the film in your minds eye.

I fell in love with this series at age 16, and now at age 29 I am sharing the episodes with my Fiance. Waiting for God is delightfully humorous while exploring the lives of "the elderly inmates" as Diana puts it, as well as the lives of their relatives and care givers. I have always enjoyed how this series strips away the mask of old age and makes you see the essential human lives that are still thriving for these individuals. I love the story arc, at the end of this series there is no disappointment, you are left with happy contentment at the final events for these friends you come to love - even the Idiot Baines. Enjoy!

A friend of ours asked us to watch this with them over the weekend. Three months ago, another friend had had us watch Koyaanisqatsi with them. Make no mistake, they are definitely different versions on the same theme. We loved the Philip Glass music score to Koyaanisqatsi, but man, that movie is an hour longer than it should be. It was exhausting to watch the constantly repeated images and repeated takes of rolling clouds, traffic and assembly lines. My husband and I were rather shocked to see the exact same scenes replayed in Baraka. I kept wondering why there hadn't been a copyright infringement lawsuit, until I read that the same person had worked on both films.

What we enjoyed about Bakara was the superior filming technology, as well as the variety of architecture and cultures portrayed in this version. I was particularly struck with the beautiful religious buildings, and the cultural practices such as the chanting and most notably the cremation scenes from India.

What was particularly annoying were all the scenes that were pretty much image for image taken from Koyaanisqatsi. The rolling clouds, the long segments showing people staring at the camera, the assembly line scenes, the scenes of the streets with the traffic filmed in time-lapse. My husband and I couln't believe how similar the two films were. I am sure that it wouln't have taken such a negative twist if we hadn't seen Koyaanisquatsi first, but alas we did. But yes, they are pretty much the same, there is still the clear message of a disintegration of humanity, and loss of spiritualism. I agree that the message is important. I think we just felt cheated by the fact that they are marketing this as something completely new, and it is clearly not.

I had this film on an old VHS tape and have enjoyed it many times over the years. It has been on a list I keep of movies I own that I want to upgrade to DVD format, this fall I finally purchased this little gem. The cast and performances on this production are superb. What was of particular wonder to me is the clarity of the film print in this DVD version. I was simply in awe at the detail I could observe in the costumes etc., such an amazing improvement over the old video! The sound was impressive as well. The richly orchestrated soundtrack as well as the spoken dialog were clear and full. In conclusion, it was totally worth the investment in this DVD edition, I will enjoy it for many years to come.
